Different Types of Photo Booths Available in 2024
You know you don’t want your guests to have to take turns with their cell phones snapping pictures with cardstock props, so you’re planning on getting a photo booth. The only problem is, there are so many options! How do you even choose a photo booth? What types are there? Do they have different costs? Here are a few different considerations to make sure your event has the right booth!
How to Choose A Photo Booth
Enclosed or Open Air
These categories contain different types of photo booths in each, but it is a good starting point when considering how to choose a photo booth.
An enclosed photo booth is more private, but the enclosure can range from an inflatable enclosure with room to dance, to something more cozy like a mall photo booth.
An open air booth is the opposite, which has it’s pros and cons. On the pro side, there is the possibility that seeing your braver guests have fun with the booth can encourage the more timid guests to loosen up. Also, it’s great for surprise photo bombs and sharing creative ideas! On the con side, there isn’t much room for props, dancing, or creativity. Also, if your guests were hoping for a more intimate photo booth moment, this type won’t help keep any secrets.
Mirror Booths
Mirror booths look like they sound, like a mirror. Some are large, some are full length mirrors and some are smaller. But don’t be fooled; these booths are fancier than most mirrors I’ve ever seen. They have text and images pop up ON THE MIRROR counting down the time until the pictures are taken, and even complimenting your guests!
The plus side to mirror booths is that your guests can get a clear view of themselves. It helps them feel confident in their poses and expressions. Also, they can add an elegant touch to your event and have on-theme animations, stickers, and digital props. Different sizes will come at increasing costs given their challenging size and weight. The downside to these is that they don’t work well in outdoor lighting.
Green Screen Booths
When looking into how to choose a photo booth, backgrounds are an important consideration. While most booths will come with a static background that is the same for everyone’s photos, green screen booths offer creativity. Most green screen booths will have different options for each guest’s preference.
A pro to choosing green screen booths is that you can customize it specifically to your theme for little to no cost. An example could be an option that says “Congratulations graduates!” in the background for those who choose it. A con for green screen booths is that if your guests wear green they could end up floating heads in the pictures.
Flipbook Booths
This is the type of booth we offer at Flippin Fun Fotos, so we are a bit biased when we say this is the best type of photo booth. This type of booth takes a gif of your guests and prints each frame on a page of a small flipbook. When you flip the pages quickly, the gif plays back on the pages. You can also share them on social media as a gif! Here at Flippin’ Fun Fotos we combine this booth type with a green screen background for maximum fun and customizability!
A pro to flipbook booths is that you get a whole book of photos, fully capturing the moment. You don’t have to worry if you blinked in one of the frames since there are 27 more! It’s both a great form of event entertainment and a better favor than just a photo. Plus the video can be shared as a gif. We can’t think of any downsides to this booth!
180/360 Booths
360 Platform
This type of booth also takes a short, sharable video. An arm circles the platform, giving a whole 360 degree coverage of your guests. It is known for slow motion effects. This type of booth doesn’t usually offer prints, instead it is more aimed at just being shared digitally.
The pro is that these take visually pleasing videos almost every time. The con is that drinking, spinning arms, and platforms can cause dangerous injuries and broken equipment.
180 Booths
This type of booth goes up and over instead of around like the 360. It takes up a lot of room in comparison, but is also safer.
GlamBot
If you’ve been paying attention to the latest celebrity photo booth, you may have seen a giant robot arm and a fun slow motion effect.
The pro to the Glambot is that it produces a very high quality slow motion effect video. The con is it’s availability and cost. Since this is very new and very large, that con is likely to last a while.
Roaming Booth
If you are looking for a combination of a photographer and a photo booth, a roaming booth may be for you. In this case, the photo booth provider carries the photo booth hardware around their neck, and they get in with the crowd.
A pro to this type of booth is that a great provider can get great interaction and candid fun from your guests! A con is that there is often less room for fun props or backgrounds.
Photo Wall Mural Booth
If you are looking to send a message of community or unity, this booth is a great choice. It combines everyone’s pictures into one greater picture that comes together over the course of the event.
A pro for this booth is that it can make your guests feel like they’re a part of a larger community. A con for this is that it requires a lot of participation to reach the best end result.
Digital Graffiti Booth
If your guests are the creative types and you want wow factor, consider this type of booth. Guests are given digital spray paint cans to edit their picture in it’s wall mural sized format.
A pro for this booth is that it is creative, and interactive. A con is that it is large and a little on the pricier side, depending on the vendor.
